| Heat Island Reduction (Roof)
|
|
The existing building had a ballasted EPDM roof. Hardin installed an Energy Star
TPO "white" roof with 3 times more insulating value to save on energy bills and reduce our heat island
footprint. (Heat islands - the thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas –
affect the microclimate and human/wildlife habitats.) The rock ballast salvaged was used on another
LEED project in town that Hardin was building.
